Isn't it unnecessary to post this in the offseason?
I mean, when real teams are in the offseason, they just send out invites for spring training and that's it. There is no designation between majors and minors, right?

When we take somebody off the 40 man roster they need to be designated for assignment.

But... why?
Isn't the point of the offseason to reevaluate your team and try to figure out who should go where, who should be in the minors, and who should be on the 25 man or 40 man?
For instance, the Cardinals made a playoff run and called up extra players, so I had guys like Adron Chambers and Pete Kozma on the 40 man roster. But what are the chances that they start the 2012 season on the squad?
Super slim. So why do I need to designate them for assignment when the reality is that they will just be minor leaguers until they are called up for performance or need?
Seems to me that the rule should only apply during the season...
Am I making sense at all?

As far as I'm concerned, you can just do it.
No way that everyone should have a right to claim your players that you shuffle around during the offseason. That's just my opinion, but maybe I am wrong.
Gonna need some input from commish.
But let me know, I have been shuffling dudes all around, adjusting to my new claims and the dispersal draft, etc.

If we're trying to keep things as close to MLB rules as we can then it should be the same all year long.
